About

What this site is:

  • An academic examination of “Deckplate Leadership” as an emerging, unique leadership model in and of itself, yet synergistic with and somewhat dependent on the other leadership models that currently exist in today’s business management and business administration worlds.
  • A vehicle to discuss the roles and attributes of Deckplate leaders and how they apply in today’s Navy as well as the modern American work force in general.
  • A supplement to the Navy/Leadership-related sites that already exist, official and unofficial.
  • A tool to educate a wide variety of business professionals in and out of the Navy on how a Deckplate Leader approaches common leadership challenges, and close the perceived gap that exists between the Navy and the private business sector.
  • A medium to communicate thoughts and ideas that support the goals and principles of Naval senior leadership.
  • An interactive discussion of key issues that impact our Navy’s Sailors and the leadership challenges they present to the modern day Deckplate Leader.
  • A place to share “nuggets of wisdom” passed down from generations of Deckplate Leaders that will either bring new insight or vision to commonly taught leadership principles or present advice on career development.
  • A continuous work in progress, so please drop by regularly to see the new updates!

What this site is NOT:

  • This is NOT an official Navy website. This site is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by the US Navy. (NOTE: See disclaimer page.)
  • This is NOT a replacement to or competitor with the current Navy/Leadership-related sites that currently exist.
  • This is NOT a vehicle to “slam” or diminish the capabilities of the Navy. I love my Navy and our Sailors, and they have worked too hard to deserve that.
  • This is NOT a medium that aims to “educate” the civilian population on perceived atrocities and/or injustices that may or may not exist in the Navy.
  • This site does NOT provide family, financial or legal counsel.

So get your cup of joe, relax, and soak in–as well as add to–the wisdom and lessons learned over 232 years of leading from the deckplates!
